Standard Updates - April 2006

Back Back

12.7 - Details For Wings Parallel to A1 Abutment Centerline (insert sheets - none)

  • Wing Elevation - Add benchmark cap and note: "Bench mark cap (when supplied)".  Some regions use the benchmark cap and others do not, the plans will show where it is to be located when it is supplied.

15.2 - Slope Paving - Structures (Crushed Aggregate & Select Crushed Material) (insert sheets - SlpPavCrAg.dgn)

  • Title - Add Select Crushed Material

  • Plan View - Show slope paving extending 2'-0" beyond edge of deck.

  • New View - Standard Cross Section Thru Select Crushed Material.  A new material has been added to this standard to provide for additional option.  Asphaltic material is not required with this material.

  • Slope Paving Under Structures - Remove this view.

15.3 - Slope Paving - Structures (Concrete Cast-In-Place) (insert sheets - SlpPavCIP.dgn)

  • Plan View - Show slope paving extending 2'-0" beyond edge of deck.

  • Add additional sections - At Shoulder and At Sidewalk.

  • Typical Section Highway Grade Separation - Remove the paving between the footing and the shoulder.

  • Slope Paving Under Structures - Remove this view.

19.6 - Pretensioned Girder Details (insert sheets - g54W.dgn, g72W.dgn, g82W.dgn)

  • Update to accommodate new 82W" girder.

  • Slab Haunch Detail - Reflect new detail at edge of deck for wide flange girders; slope bottom of slab @ exterior girder to match the slope of the bottom of the top flange.

  • Section At Exterior Girder - Remove detail, Slab Haunch Detail sufficiently covers this.

  • Designer Notes - Clarify the use of pilasters.

19.7 - Interm. Steel Diaphs. For 28", 36", 45", 54" & 54W" Prestressed Girders (insert sheets - gstdia.dgn, gsdiamt.dgn)

  • Part Transverse Section At Diaphragm - Add note to exterior girder; "See standard 19.6 for bottom of slab at exterior girder details".

30.11 - Chain Link Fence Details (insert sheets - railchan.dgn)

  • Fence Part Elevation - Change all references to "stretcher bar" to "tension bar".  Show detail of top and bottom of fence to be knuckled.  Change note referring to chain link fabric to more closely match specification.

19.14 - Bearing Pad Details For Prestressed Concrete Girders (insert sheets - g28det.dgn, g36det.dgn, g45det.dgn, g54det.dgn, g70det.dgn, g54Wdet.dgn, g72Wdet.dgn, g82Wdet.dgn)

  • Min. "A" Table - Add note: "A" dimension based on........... ".  Dimension "A" will need to be recalculated when using an anchor plate length greater than 10".

  • Update tables to accommodate new 82W" girder.

19.16 - Intermediate Steel Diaphragms for 70", 72W" & 82W" Prestressed Girders (insert sheet - gstdia.dgn)

  • Update to accommodate new 82W" girder.

19.18 - 54W" Pretensioned Girder Details (insert sheets - g54w.dgn)

19.21 - 72W" Pretensioned Girder Details (insert sheets - g72w.dgn)

  • General Notes - Change bond breaker note to read:

"TOP OF GIRDER TO BE ROUGH FLOATED AND BROOMED TRANSVERSELY FOR BONDING TO THE SLAB, EXCEPT THE OUTSIDE 15" OF GIRDER, WHICH SHALL RECEIVE A SMOOTH FINISH.  AN APPROVED CONCRETE SEALER SHALL BE APPLIED TO ALL SMOOTH SURFACES INCLUDING THE OUTSIDE 15" OF THE TOP FLANGE." Because the bond breaker as it was previously specified is susceptible to rapid breakdown, it must be applied no longer than 7 days prior to the deck pour.  It must also be applied before the deck steel is tied.  Larger structures often require more than 7 days to tie the deck steel.  Tests have confirmed that concrete sealer will perform as a bond breaker without any time limitations.

19.20 - Pretensioned 54W", 72W" & 82W" Girder Slab & Superstructure Details (insert sheets - g54wdet.dgn, g72wdet.dgn, g82wdet.dgn)

  • Prestressed Girder With Semi-Expansion Seat & Diaphragm At ½" Elastomeric Bearing - Change u-shaped bar to stirrup.  Single stirrup allows for additional tie down spots.  U-shaped bar tended to rotate while pouring concrete.  Replace note; "Optional const. Jt.........." With "No optional construction joint allowed.  Place diaphragm concrete with deck slab".  Diaphragm will be poured with the deck with the goal of reducing chances of concrete between top flanges at the pier of breaking off, reduced deck cracking at the substructures, and reduce spalling of diaphragm under top flange.

  • Part Transverse Section at Diaphragm Semi Expansion End - Add additional stirrup under top flange between exterior girder and end of diaphragm.  On large skew bridges the distance under the flange becomes greater and requires additional bar.  Slope bottom of slab @ exterior girder to match the slope of the bottom of the top flange.  This detail is easier to form and more aesthetically pleasing.

19.23 - 82W" Pretensioned Girder Details (insert sheets - g82w.dgn)

  • New standard.

19.24 - 82W" Pretensioned Girder Design Data (insert sheets - g82w.dgn)

  • New standard.

27.7 - Elastomeric Bearings For Prestressed Concrete Girders (insert sheets - brelaspg.dgn)

  • End View - Change note "Steel laminated elastomeric bearing (Durometer 55 + 5)" to "Steel laminated elastomeric bearing (Durometer 60 + 5)".  Change to match standard spec. and to accommodate new 82W" girder.

27.9 - Steel Bearings for Prestressed Concrete Girders (insert sheets - brgpcg.dgn)

  • Section B1 - Beveled stainless steel anchor plate note, remove 10" length, add note stating, "anchor plate length to be designed, 10-inch min".

  • Expansion Bearing - Anchor bolt note, change "see std 27.1" to "see std 40.16".

  • Add 82W" girder to all plate and stud notes.

28.1 - Strip Seal Expansion Joint Details (insert sheets - jt400ss.dgn)

  • Section Thru Joint - The geometry of the 5/8" dia. loop bar was modified to move the bottom of the loop bar upward.

  • Alternate Strip Seal Anchor - Dimension changes to move the bottom of the anchor upward.  The fabricator of the strip seal joint was placing the loop anchorage detail within the limits of the top flange for W-series prestressed girders.  The depth of the loop bar would not allow it to be placed @ this location because of interference with the top flange.

28.3 - Modular Expansion Joint Details (insert sheet - jtmoddetails)

  • Anchorage Detail - The geometry of the 5/8" dia. Loop bar was modified & the bottom of the loop bar was moved upward.  The fabricator of the modular joint was placing the loop anchorage detail within the limits of the top flange for w-series prestressed girders.  The depth of the loop bar would not allow it to be placed @ this location because of interference with the top flange.

30.11 - Chain Link Fence Details (insert sheet - railchan.dgn)

  • Fence Part Elevation - Show top rail as continuous over interior posts.  Detail was previously shown incorrectly.

30.12 - Sloped Face Parapet "LF" (insert sheets - lfwin.dgn, lfdec.dgn)

30.13 - Sloped Face Parapet "HF" (insert sheets - hfdec.dgn, hfwin.dgn)

  • Inside Elevation - Add benchmark cap and note: "Bench mark cap (when supplied)".  Some regions use the benchmark cap and others do not, the plans will show where it is to be located when it is supplied.

  • Add notes to insure proper placement of the bars at the wing transition:

"R502 bars may be placed after concrete is poured but before initial set has taken place.  Use care to place R502 or S502 bars correctly along transition of parapet."

"R501 and R503 bars to be tied to wing steel before wing is poured."

30.16 - Tubular Steel Railing Type "M" (insert sheets - railm.dgn)

  • Legend, Item #6 - Clarify bolt as slotted.

30.20 - Sloped Face Parapet "51F" (insert sheet - 51f.dgn)

·         Inside Elevation - Add benchmark cap and note: "Bench mark cap (when supplied)".  Some regions use the benchmark cap and others do not, the plans will show where it is to be located when it is supplied.

36.1 - Box Culvert Layout (insert sheets - none)

·         Section C1 - Change dimension at beam guard to 2'-0" from shoulder hinge point to back of post.
