Regional research activities

The Transportation Pooled Fund research program, sponsored by the Federal Highway Administration, allows agencies to pool their money to fund larger research projects of common interest. Our contributions to pooled fund projects and other regional efforts with universities and private sector organizations enable us to leverage our investment many times over.

WisDOT leads five pooled fund research efforts:

• Transportation Library Connectivity - technology transfer effort to support state information sharing between transportation libraries

• Clear Roads - ongoing research program that funds projects related to materials and equipment in winter highway maintenance

• North Central Pavement Research & Implementation Coordination Partnership - collaboration of four states for sharing research results and planned projects related to pavements

• Midwest Regional University Transportation Center Asset Management - program for funding multiple research and synthesis projects related to transportation asset management

• Mississippi Valley Freight Coalition - a regional organization that cooperates in the planning, operation, preservation and improvement of transportation infrastructure.
