State research activities
We strive to maintain a balanced investment in research
activities for Wisconsin across five broad areas: need
identification and program development, research in progress,
oversight and evaluation, technology transfer, and implementation of
results. We fund formal studies on highway, multimodal and policy
topics through both in-house and partner managed programs. We also
fund a range of other research activities, such as peer exchanges,
quick-turnaround synthesis reports, literature searches, sponsorship
of conferences and professional development.
Below are the two state research programs funded by WisDOT
Research:
- Wisconsin Highway Research Program
In action since 1998, WHRP funds research projects across five
subject areas: asphalt pavement, concrete pavement, geotechnics,
structures and data integration. Every fall we solicit research
ideas from staff around the state. Learn more about this program,
including detailed project information on the WHRP Web
site.
- Policy Research Program
New in 2007, this research program is funding policy-related
projects across a range of subjects. The projects focus on
evaluating the technical merit of current policies and the impacts
of those policies on the economy, safety, operations and more. New
projects will get underway each year based on a solicitation for
ideas in the fall.
